My Inspiration

Where inspiration Begins

Every designer has a story. Mine began in the small town of Townville, South Carolina

where creativity wasn't simply a hobby, it became the lens through which I learned to see the world.

As a child, I was fortunate to be selected for Explore the Arts, an after-school enrichment program in Pendleton, South Carolina. Throughout my elementary and middle school years, this program introduced me to a wide range of artistic disciplines including painting, photography, calligraphy, ceramics, clay work, and other fine arts. Those experiences ignited a lifelong passion for creativity and taught me that art is more than something you create- it's a way to communicate, inspire, and connect with others.

Photography soon became another defining influence. My father was a photographer who maintained a darkroom in our basement. Although we didn't have much, I grew up surrounded by cameras, film, developing chemicals, and stacks of photographs. He spent countless hours photographing nature and concerts for both local and internationally known musicians. Watching images slowly appear in a developing tray sparked a fascination that has never left me. It was there that I discovered the power of photography to preserve emotion, tell stories, and reveal beauty that others might overlook.

Throughout my teenage years, creativity remained a constant companion. I spent countless hours sketching superheroes, recreating baseball card illustrations, experimenting with hand-drawn artwork, and developing a unique style of oil painting on glass that I continue to enjoy today. Every new medium became another opportunity to learn, experiment, and grow.

Then technology changed everything.

In the early 2000s, I discovered Paint Shop Pro and later the Adobe Creative Suite. Suddenly, the limitations of traditional media disappeared. Photography, illustration, typography, and graphic design could all exist together on a single canvas. I became captivated by digital art - creating compositions, manipulating photographs, and transforming ordinary images into something entirely new. It wasn't just software; it was a new way of thinking creatively.

When I relocated to Tampa, Florida, my surroundings once again reshaped my artistic perspective. The Gulf Coast offered endless inspiration through its coastal landscapes, wildlife, dramatic sunsets, and vibrant culture. I developed a particular appreciation for Ybor City, where weathered brick buildings, cobblestone streets, wrought iron architecture, and lush green vines create striking visual contrasts. That combination of history, texture, and color became one of my favorite environments for photography, especially while working with local musicians and artists.

My passion eventually led me to the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts in 2009. Although the school later closed its doors, the education I received there proved invaluable. It challenged me to think beyond creating attractive designs and instead focus on solving problems, communicating ideas, and developing a unique creative voice. Those years transformed me from someone who loved art into someone who understood the purpose behind good design.

In 2020, another unexpected chapter began when I joined Freemasonry. What initially drew me in was the opportunity to surround myself with people committed to personal growth, leadership, and service. What I didn't anticipate was how profoundly it would reignite my creativity.

As I became involved with local lodges and nonprofit organizations, I found myself designing logos, promotional campaigns, event materials, websites, social media content, educational publications, and branding that helped organizations better connect with their communities. For the first time, my creative skills became directly connected to service. Design was no longer simply about creating something beautiful, it became a way to support charitable causes, strengthen organizations, inspire volunteers, and tell stories that mattered.

Today, that purpose continues to guide everything I create through Brown Creative Co. I believe the most meaningful design is rooted in authenticity, built through collaboration, and driven by a desire to make a positive impact. Whether I'm working with a nonprofit, a small business, or a community organization, my goal is always the same: to create work that not only looks exceptional but helps people, strengthens communities, and leaves a lasting impression.

Because inspiration isn't found in a single place or moment... it's found in every person, every experience, and every opportunity to make a difference.
